London Child Development Clinic offers comprehensive assessments of your child’s strengths and difficulties in different areas of their development for the purpose of identifying needs and planning support with or without the end result being a diagnosis.  We are able to provide a wide range of packages dependent upon the needs of your child and family.

What we offer

Communication and Behaviour Clinic

Communication and behaviour are often interlinked and one can impact on the other.  This clinic is therefore led by LCDC’s lead Clinical Psychologist and Speech and Language Therapist with the aim of helping you to address your specific behaviour and communication-related concerns regarding your child.

The clinic involves meeting with you and your child for 1.5 hours. Following this we will devise a programme including specific strategies and approaches that you and others working with your child can use to support their communication and behavioural needs.  Follow-up appointments are available as well as observations of your child in their educational setting should you wish.

Multi-Professional Clinic

You may feel that your child has complex needs across all areas of their development and are therefore seeking a comprehensive assessment and opinion from a range of professionals.  We will speak to you to ascertain which professionals your child would most benefit from seeing in this clinic.  Professionals involved in this clinic could include a Consultant Pediatrician, Speech and Language Therapist, Clinical Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Specialist Teacher, Physiotherapist.  Please contact us directly to discuss your needs in more detail.

Speech and Language Therapy Assessment

An in-depth assessment of all aspects of your child’s communication with the aim of identifying strengths and difficulties.  A screening option is also available.

Neuropsychological and Cognitive Assessments

A neuropsychological assessment is a comprehensive assessment of all aspects of your child’s learning and cognitive skills with the aim of identifying strengths and difficulties across areas as well as identifying any specific learning disabilities such as Dyslexia, poor attention and memory impairment.

Cognitive assessments are also available, which identify your child’s innate cognitive/learning strengths and difficulties and can be used as evidence of suitability for selective schools where you child may not have passed the 11+, or as part of an Education Health Care Plan.

School Observations

It may be recommended that an observation of your child takes place in their educational setting in order to gather further information to inform an assessment. Some parents also value the insight that can be gained from an observation in school / nursery and can find this helpful as a ‘stand-alone’ assessment.  Observations include a discussion with your child’s teacher and a written report.  Please note that the ‘ADHD’ assessment is inclusive of an observation on your child in their educational setting.

Follow-Up / Post-Diagnosis Support

Receiving a diagnosis is important but knowing what to do next is an anxiety that many parents have.  Our courses and workshops are designed to help you learn more about your child’s diagnosis. More information about parent groups and workshops can be found under ‘parent groups and training’.  Individual sessions are also available.
